Lionel ZW 275 Transformer (1950-56) - The Lionel Type ZW Transformer is the largest of the transformers manufactured by Lionel during the postwar period. Lionel advertised the wattage output of this transformer at 275 watts, and that it will operate four individual trains on four variable voltage control circuits. Generally speaking though, while you could operate 4 small locomotives, operating 4 double motor Santa Fe diesels would be stretch. Our transformers have been updated with new whistle diodes that replaced the old rectifier disks. They work better and will even operate the newer electronic whistles and horns.

Only the two outer control circuits (large handles) have whistle and directional controllers. The two inner controls were usually reserved for accessories as they have no whistle or directional controls. The transformer is equipped with both power and short circuit light indicators. This particular model was a redesign of the early ZW 250 watt transformer. The changes included a large two piece lamination stack; better support brackets; Improved whistle and direction controllers and a new type of circuit breaker.

All of the transformers we sell are thoroughly cleaned, tested and brought up to meet or exceed Lionel's original specifications for this transformer type. Unless stated otherwise, our transformers come with a two (2) year warranty as long as the transformer is used in accordance with Lionel's original instructions. This particular transformer comes with a reproduction ZW box.
