PT-1 Basic Truck - Staple End With 480-25 Base Plate - When Lionel produced its freight trucks during the early postwar period, they initially assigned basic part numbers to complete trucks. In the case of the truck shown, the part number was 480-1. In 1955, Lionel eliminated part numbers for the complete trucks, and instead specified all of the parts necessary to assemble them. During the early 1950's the first freight truck was the PT-1 basic truck, often referred to as the staple end truck. To this truck, Lionel would then add the appropriate base plate depending on where the truck was to be used. For our inventory purposes, we have assigned the part number PT-1-480-25 to the truck shown in the above picture. This truck consists of the PT-1 basic truck with the 480-25 base plate without the manual uncouple lever. While the trucks we have available are new old stock, they are not pristine, they have been stored in Lionel bins since the 1950's.
